About Me

My name is Andrew Ferguson. I’m a Vancouver photographer and sometimes writer. I focus on street photography and portrait photography. I roam Vancouver’s urban landscape all the time looking for interesting shots to take. I’m intensely interested in the fields of future technology, effective advertising, media phenomena, the local arts scene and all aspects of photography.

I currently work for a major online gambling company doing website quality analysis and sometimes do additional strange stuff for their marketing/editorial departments.

Religious History

As far as my religious background goes, I’m coming at this project from a bit of an odd angle. I was raised Roman Catholic by my parents (Catholic mother, Anglican father) until I was about 13 or 14. Previously, I’d limited my dalliances with heathen-hood to simple things, like falling asleep during church or getting kicked out of Sunday school for asking why Jesus was white. When I hit 13 or 14, I began refusing to go to church.

This did not go over well with my mom, but eventually I was quietly allowed to assume my own beliefs. I still will sometimes attend church at Christmas or Easter if I’m with her or members of her extended family, out of respect for their beliefs and because I know it’s important to them.

Since then, I’ve had no specific religion or beliefs to call my own. I fall somewhere between frustrated agnostic and disillusioned atheist most of the time. I sincerely dislike organized religions and the way I feel it takes advantage of people to the point of almost being anti-religious. On the other side, I am intensely aware of how important faith can be to someone.

I feel there are a lot of important things that can be learned from religion; mainly the ways in which humanity can take something beautiful (like, oh I don’t know, a simple carpenters son preaching a message of love and forgiveness) and turn it into something terrible (nailing him to a tree, the crusades, modern evangelicals, etc).

This will be my first major experience with a religion other than Roman Catholic Christianity. I have taken religious studies courses on other faiths and attended a Unitarian church once (I was impressed), but nothing this intense.
